When students plan to stay in the host country after finishing their studies, it becomes a concern. This is an issue that demands attention.

In 2022-23, the number of Indian students in the US increased by 35% to reach a record of 268,923. We must consider these figures in light of the H1B status and the complex US immigration narrative.
Canada’s Stand and Unchanging Trends
Despite Canada’s clear statement of the Education Visa Cap and the tightening of rules, the trend seems to remain unchanged. I always advise parents to think about what comes next. What are their children’s plans after completing their master’s or any other course? How do they plan to obtain permanent residency if they wish to stay there? Currently, there are 1.5 million work permit holders in Canada, so what do these numbers imply?
Getting permanent residency in Canada and Australia will become more difficult in the future. Despite studying and working there, obtaining permanent residency or work permits in Australia will be a challenging task. These are hard facts that we cannot ignore.

My counseling recommendation is clear and concise. Let me share a story about a client of mine who applied for a Canada startup Visa. They had a 21-year-old son at the time. If your children are under 22, and you can afford it, I highly recommend getting permanent residency (PR) for your family. Remember that a student visa is temporary, not permanent, so your opportunities will be limited while you focus on your education. Thus, practical considerations about your financial well-being are paramount. Avoid being drawn to the exciting student lifestyle shown in photos or social media and focus on understanding the realities before starting your international education.
