Understanding the Dynamics of Overseas Education: Realities, Trends, and Wise Choices.

Let’s accept the fact that the Overseas Education trend will never diminish, no matter how much visa regulations change in those countries, no matter how worried students are about a future work permit or PR, and no matter how stressful life abroad may be. That’s a hard fact!

However, it’s important to understand that an educational visa is a temporary visa (TRV), not a permanent one. This means that your options are limited while you focus on your education. Therefore, practical considerations for your financial wellbeing are paramount. Don’t be seduced by the exciting student life in photos or on social media, but focus on understanding the realities before you embark on your international education journey.

If you have children who want to pursue their overseas education, you need to carefully consider their finances and future plans before sending them to study abroad.

Introduction

I must admit, this article has truly taken me by surprise. The enthusiasm of Indian students to pursue Overseas education remains unwavering. Although they are facing challenges with educational visas and high rejection rates in countries like Australia, Canada, and the UK, they are determined to keep moving forward. If individuals have the means to seize this opportunity through their own abilities and financial resources, it is unquestionably commendable. When students plan to stay in the host country after finishing their studies, it becomes a concern. This is an issue that demands attention.

The Numbers Speak: A Surge in Indian Students in the US

In 2022-23, the number of Indian students in the US increased by 35% to reach a record of 268,923. We must consider these figures in light of the H1B status and the complex US immigration narrative.

Canada’s Stand and Unchanging Trends

Despite Canada’s clear statement of the Education Visa Cap and the tightening of rules, the trend seems to remain unchanged. I always advise parents to think about what comes next. What are their children’s plans after completing their master’s or any other course? How do they plan to obtain permanent residency if they wish to stay there? Currently, there are 1.5 million work permit holders in Canada, so what do these numbers imply?

Getting permanent residency in Canada and Australia will become more difficult in the future. Despite studying and working there, obtaining permanent residency or work permits in Australia will be a challenging task. These are hard facts that we cannot ignore.

Plan Ahead: My Counseling Recommendation

My counseling recommendation is clear and concise. Let me share a story about a client of mine who applied for a Canada startup Visa. They had a 21-year-old son at the time. If your children are under 22, and you can afford it, I highly recommend getting permanent residency (PR) for your family. This status offers numerous advantages, one of which is a tuition fee waiver for students. This means that your children will be eligible for local student fees instead of the much higher international fees. While international students pay an average of 30,000 CAD for their courses, local students only pay around 7,000 CAD. The difference is truly remarkable! Is it truly a sight to behold! But wait, there’s more. Your children will have peace of mind and the freedom to create a secure future for themselves.

Look Before You Leap: Practical Considerations for Aspiring International Students

Before applying for a study program in the US,UK, Canada or Australia, evaluate your financial situation and plan how to support yourself during and after your education. Do thorough research, talk to people like current students, and avoid making quick decisions. Trusting your instincts is crucial. Remember, their experience may not mirror yours. Remember that a student visa is temporary, not permanent, so your opportunities will be limited while you focus on your education. Thus, practical considerations about your financial well-being are paramount. Avoid being drawn to the exciting student lifestyle shown in photos or social media  and focus on understanding the realities before starting your international education.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the demand for international education remains unchanged despite changes in global education, immigration policies, and the strong determination of Indian students. Stay tuned for the latest updates on these exciting developments.
