What is the Sweden Job Seeker Visa?
The Sweden Job Seeker Visa is a unique opportunity that enables you to reside in Sweden while actively searching for job opportunities or exploring the entrepreneurial landscape. The best part? No job offer is required to apply for this visa.
Duration: Minimum 3 months and a maximum of 9 months!
Eligibility Criteria
- Hold an advanced degree (master’s degree, PhD, advanced vocational degree/professional degree).
- Intent to seek employment or explore entrepreneurial opportunities in Sweden.
- Demonstrated financial self-sufficiency for the entire residence period.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage.
- Valid passport for the entire intended stay.
- Reside outside of Sweden.
Advanced Degree Requirement
To apply for the Sweden Job Seeker Visa, you need an advanced degree, such as a master’s, PhD, or equivalent. Your degree must meet certain credit requirements.
Document Verification
When submitting your application, you must provide a letter authorizing the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) to contact your educational institution to verify the submitted educational documents. The Swedish Migration Agency will forward your documents to UHR for assessment.
Application Process:Use e-services to make an application
The application process is straightforward. You’ll need digital copies of essential documents, including passport pages, examination certificates, academic transcripts, financial statements, and more. Plus, don’t forget your comprehensive health insurance and the letter of consent authorizing document verification.
Bringing Family Members
Unfortunately, you cannot bring family members with you on this permit. However, once you secure employment, you can apply for a work permit that allows your family to join you in Sweden.
When Can You Start Working?
Working on a job seeker permit is not permitted. If you find a job in Sweden, you must apply for a work permit from within the country. The good news is that you can commence working immediately after submitting the work permit application (no need to wait for approval). However, you’re allowed to work only for the employer and profession specified in your work permit.
Applying to Start Your Own Business in Sweden
If you aspire to launch your own business in Sweden, you can apply for a residence permit as a self-employed individual. You can operate your business while the Swedish Migration Agency processes your application.
